Liverpool will move for a new senior right-back as they plot a big spending spree this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that Jurgen Klopp has become concerned about the defensive frailty of his Liverpool side and will look to reinforce the club's rearguard in the transfer market.

However, it is not believed that Klopp will move for any forwards - despite the impending exit of Roberto Firmino on a free transfer.

A new right-back is on the agenda following Trent Alexander-Arnold's move into a midfield role in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old has grabbed four assists in his last three games since stepping into a more creative berth in the middle of the park.

However, the England international's defensive capabilities have come under the microscope in a below-par season for Liverpool.

As quoted by Sky Sports, former Reds defender Jamie Carragher branded Alexander-Arnold's defending "not good enough" and suggested it "isn't going to improve".

And it is now believed that Klopp is keen to add to his pool of right-backs, with youngster Calvin Ramsey and natural centre-back Joe Gomez currently the only competition.

A midfield overhaul is also anticipated as Liverpool prepare to lose several high-profile figures.

Arthur Melo will return to parent club Juventus, while Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all out of contract at the end of June.

Injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate this season have left Liverpool exposed - leaving Klopp keen to add to the club's pool of top centre-backs.

Liverpool sit seventh in the Premier League with their chances of Champions League qualification now dangling by a thread.

The Reds face West Ham on Wednesday (26 April).
