Liverpool will now turn their attention to signing a centre-back after completing a move for attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders announced the arrival of Szoboszlai, 22, on Sunday (2 July) - with the ex-RB Leipzig star signing a five-year contract at Anfield.

Nevertheless, it is believed the Reds are keen to press on with a move for a new centre-back.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his defensive options with a new centre-back following a challenging 2022-23 campaign.

Sporting CP and Portugal ace Goncalo Inacio remains on the shortlist.

Josko Gvardiol was considered as a potential target but is now closing in on a mega-money move to title rivals Man City.

Liverpool are keen to bolster their squad in the summer window after finishing outside the top four in the 2022-23 campaign.

Current centre-backs Virgil van Dijk, 31, and Ibrahima Konate, 24, both struggled with injuries at times last term.

Backup stars Joel Matip and Joe Gomez filled in for the pair but dropped a series of high-profile clangers in a challenging campaign.

Alongside Szoboszlai, Liverpool have also continued their midfield rebuild with the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

Naby Keita, James Milner, Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsey, Rhys Williams, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all sealed Anfield exits this summer.
