Sources: Liverpool pull plug on signing 'immobile' Youri Tielemans

Liverpool will not pursue Leicester City star Youri Tielemans this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders have been linked with the Belgium midfielder, 25, as they look to recruit multiple central midfielders in what promises to a be a major overhaul in the upcoming window.

But Liverpool have pulled the plug on a potential deal for Tielemans even though he will be available as a free agent after failing to agree a new Leicester contract.

It is believed that Jurgen Klopp’s recruitment team have analysed the player but deem him “not mobile enough”, sources say, for their team’s requirements.

They will instead turn their attention to securing alternative midfield targets, with Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount at the top of their shopping list.

Last week (31 March), sources told this site that the Reds are still in pole position to sign Bellingham despite interest from Real Madrid, Man United and Man City.

The midfielder will have two years left on his Borussia Dortmund contract at the end of the season but Klopp’s side believe they have their noses in front in the race to sign him this summer.

On 1 April, Football Insider revealed that although both City and Liverpool are working on a deal for Mount, Anfield is seen as a more likely destination.

The chance that the 24-year-old will leave Chelsea in the summer is growing and the Blues are now willing to sell their academy product.

He will have a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season when the Reds will look to secure his services.
