Liverpool have told on-loan midfielder Arthur Melo they won't be signing him permanently this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

That decision leaves the 26-year-old free to find a new club in the off-season as he is surplus to requirements at parent club Juventus.

The Merseysiders included an option to buy in the loan deal they struck to bring Melo to the club last summer (2022).

But sources with knowledge of the situation have revealed there is "no chance" of the Reds taking up that option following his injury-plagued season at Anfield.

Melo has made just one senior appearance for Liverpool this season - a 13-minute cameo against Napoli in the Champions League.

The Brazil international has turned out for the club's Under-21 side in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.

He has recently returned to fitness after a serious thigh injury which required surgery.

The former Barcelona ace earns a reported wage of £110,000-a-week at Liverpool.

Melo's departure is expected to be one of multiple exits in the midfield area - with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of contract in June.

Jurgen Klopp's side are plotting several midfield signings - with Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham widely expected to be the Reds' top target.

The Merseysiders are likely to be without Champions League football next season after falling 10 points behind fourth-place Man United.
