Sources: Liverpool tell Ben Davies he can find a new club

Liverpool have told Ben Davies he is free to find a new club, Football Insider understands.

The defender, 26, has yet to make his first-team debut after signing from Preston North End on deadline day in January 2021.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club will listen to permanent and loan offers for Davies this summer.

A loan is more likely as Davies has a lucrative contract with the Premier League giants that runs until the summer of 2025.

He spent last season on loan at Championship club Sheffield United but they are strapped for cash and a permanent deal is unlikely.

The Preston youth product, who can also play left-back, made 22 appearances in the second tier during the 2021-22 campaign.

He fell out of favour towards the end of the season as the Blades failed to bounce back into the Premier League via the play-offs.

Davies was a mainstay in the Preston defence for three-and-a-half seasons from 2017 to 2021 before he was prised away to Liverpool.

He joined amid a backdrop of injury problems at Anfield – with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip among the long-term casualties.

The Merseysiders paid a reported upfront fee of just £500,000 for the centre-back, with add-ons potentially taking the outlay to £1.6million.

According to The Athletic (16 August 2021) Liverpool have recouped that investment thanks to a £500,000 loan fee received from Sheffield United.

The signing of Ibrahima Konate and the injury returns of Van Dijk and Matip has seen Davies rendered surplus to requirements.

Liverpool fell short in their quest to win a historic quadruple during the 2021-22 campaign but emerged victorious in the League Cup and FA Cup.
