Torino star Perr Schuurs could come back on the radar at Liverpool as they search for centre-back reinforcements, sources have told Football Insider.

They have, however, already lost ground in the pursuit of some of their top targets - with Micky van de Ven joining Tottenham and Goncalo Inacio penning a new deal with Sporting CP.

Schuurs, who came through the ranks at Fortuna Sittard, is seen as a realistically priced option for the Merseysiders.

It is believed he will cost Jurgen Klopp's side around £30million as the 1 September deadline rapidly approaches.

He has not yet made his senior Netherlands bow but received his first-call up in 2020.

Nonetheless, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Liverpool captain and countryman Virgil van Dijk is "well aware" of his talents and is a "big fan" of Schuurs.

The centre-back won three Eredivisie titles and two Dutch Cups for Ajax before leaving for Serie A outfit Torino last summer (2022).

His Il Toro contract runs until June 2026 - with the club also holding the option to extend it a further 12 months.

Schuurs racked up 36 appearances across all competitions last term - notching one goal and two assists.

Despite being just 23, he has already made 222 senior appearances for Torino, Ajax and Fortuna Sittard - scoring 19 goals.

Liverpool

New skipper Van Dijk lined up alongside Ibrahima Konate last week for Liverpool's season-opening 1-1 draw away at Chelsea.

The Reds face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday (19 August).
