Liverpool are willing to accept an offer of around £15million for Joel Matip this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The defender, who turns 32 in August, is out of contract in the summer of 2024 and has a history of niggling injuries.

Matip's long-term future is up in the air even though he has started four of Liverpool's last six Premier League games during what has been a defensive injury crisis.

The popular defender's form has declined in recent months and this was evident in last weekend's (4 February) 3-0 loss to Wolves, in which he scored an own goal.

The Reds' defence was all at sea as Wolves, who had only scored nine goals at Molineux all season before the game, eased to victory.

Matip started 31 Premier League games last season but his role in the side has diminished, leaving him behind Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order.

Van Dijk and Konate remain sidelined with Jurgen Klopp revealing on Friday (10 February), as reported by Liverpool Echo, that neither player is close to a return.

Matip has himself suffered an injury this season as he missed six Premier League games with a calf injury throughout October and November.

Matip has won every major trophy on offer at Liverpool since joining the club on a free transfer from Schalke in the summer of 2016.

He has made 181 appearances for the club ahead of Monday's Merseyside derby (13 February).
