Sources: Luton Town and Preston North End race to sign Hull City star Matt Ingram

Luton Town and Preston North End are plotting moves for Hull City goalkeeper Matt Ingram, Football Insider understands.

The 28-year-old ended the season on an emergency loan at the Hatters due to a serious injury to their number one goalkeeper James Shea.

Ingram moved to Kenilworth Road for the final two matches of the season and delayed his honeymoon to play in the Championship play-off semi-finals against Huddersfield Town.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Luton were impressed by Ingram’s commitment and he is on their list of targets as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options for next season.

Preston are also in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements this summer.

The Lilywhites currently have no goalkeepers on their books with Daniel Iversen returning to Leicester and Connor Ripley being released.

Hull are keen to keep Ingram with this season’s first choice Nathan Baxter returning to Chelsea following his loan spell with the Tigers.

Ingram’s contract at the MKM Stadium was due to expire at the end of this June but the club have triggered a 12-month extension clause.

He made 29 appearances for Hull City in the 2021-22 campaign prior to joining Luton Town.

Signed on a free from QPR in July 2019, Ingram has made 76 appearances in total for Hull City.

The shot-stopper has also enjoyed spells at Wycombe Wanderers and Northampton Town.

In other news, a source has revealed that Sporting Kansas have joined Fulham and Norwich City in the race to sign a Derby County star this summer.
