Chelsea are confident Andreas Christensen will sign a new long-term contract after new dialogue, Football Insider has learned.

The 25-year-old has eight months left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge and is yet to agree an extension.

A Chelsea source has told Football Insider that the club are in talks with Christensen’s father and all parties are positive a breakthrough will be secured.

The Denmark international is happy under Thomas Tuchel and is keen to put pen to paper on an extension.

Christensen has been a key player under the ex-PSG boss and has started nine Premier League and Champions League matches in total this season.

Speaking about the defender's progression on Monday, Tuchel hinted that a new contract was forthcoming.

He said: “He is very strong, very reliable and he has not reached his limits because in his age there is still room to improve.

"He can be a top defender for us in the next years."

Christensen joined Chelsea from Brondby in 2012 at the age of 15.

The centre-half made his first team debut for the Blues two years later in a League Cup tie against Shrewsbury.

In total, he has made 137 appearances for Chelsea.

Christensen is not the only defender out of contract at Stamford Bridge next summer.

Antonio Rudiger is also locked in talks over an extension with the club.

The Germany international's contract situation has alerted the attention of European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
