Jose Mourinho is more likely to join a club in the Saudi Pro League than Newcastle United, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that multiple clubs in Saudi Arabia are keen on a move for the recently sacked Roma boss.

There are a number of Saudi clubs run by Newcastle owners PiF, including Al Shabab, who are looking for new managers which could open the door for Mourinho to make a swift return to management.

While the 60-year-old has been tipped for a return to the Premier League with the Magpies, he is not believed to be in line to replace Eddie Howe.

It is believed that the two-time Champions League-winning manager's global recognition is appealing to the Saudi Pro League and that his name will enhance the reputation of the league.

There have been doubts regarding the long-term future of Eddie Howe at Newcastle, with Football Insider revealing (7 January) that owners PiF have huge ambitions for the club and want to recruit a global name as manager.

Mourinho was let go by the Serie A giants with the side just three points outside the Champions League spots and having won the Europa Conference League in 2022 - their first major European honour.

Newcastle sit 10th in the Premier League following four consecutive defeats to the likes of Luton Town and Nottingham Forest.

They are next in action against Fulham at Craven Cottage in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday 27 January.
