Sources: Major update on Lloris future and Tottenham goalkeeper plan after transfer talks held

Hugo Lloris has opened talks with Tottenham over a new long-term deal as he looks to extend his nine-year spell at the club, Football Insider has learned.

The goalkeeper’s future has been up in the air as he enters the final six months of a contract that expires next summer.

But a Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Lloris, 34, wants to commit to another deal that would take him into his late 30s.

The France World Cup winner is settled with his family in London and his children go to school in Hampstead.

He is not looking to uproot them at a time when he believed good times could be ahead at Tottenham under new manager Antonio Conte.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 17 May that Lloris would see out the final year of his Spurs contract at a time when he was being strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain and a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino.

Discussions are not underway with the club over a new long-term contract.

Tottenham are keen to tie down a player who could open pre-contract talks with an overseas club on 1 January and leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Lloris has been club captain and a virtual untouchable for almost a decade at Spurs.

He had come under criticism from Spurs supporters in recent seasons but he has been back to his best this term.

Tottenham do not want to lose such an experienced and proven performer, who has great influence in the dressing room and behind the scenes.

Along with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, Lloris is one of the three star players at Tottenham who are all capable of slotting into most Premier League teams.

Lloris has started all 14 of the club’s Premier League matches this season and has 388 appearances in total for the Londoners.
