Man United remain interested in signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer but are concerned about tabling a bid, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer and are big admirers of the 27-year-old Bees striker.

The Manchester club have been closely monitoring his availability but are extremely cautious about submitting a bid while his gambling investigation rumbles on in the background.

The FA filed 262 charges against Toney in November in December regarding breaches in their football betting regulations.

Toney has since accepted many of the charges according to The Guardian, and he could now face a lengthy ban from football when the case is settled.

United are worried about making a big-money bid only for Toney to not be available for large parts of a season due to his ban.

It is understood that Brentford have placed a £50million asking price for Toney ahead of the summer transfer window, and United would be tempted to match that fee had it not been for the ongoing investigation.

Toney has been in superb form for the London club this summer, scoring 19 league goals in 30 games for Brentford in 2022/23.

His league haul places him third in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot behind only Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

It is understood that Chelsea are also interested in signing Toney this summer, while Newcastle were long-term admirers but recently dropped out of the race.

Football Insider sources revealed on Saturday (22 April) that Newcastle have pulled a U-turn and are no longer targeting Toney this summer.
