Lyon striker Moussa Dembele is not convinced by a deadline-day move to Southampton, sources have told Football Insider.

Southampton have a strong interest in the former Celtic star, 26, as they look to bolster their attacking options.

But it is believed that a move to St Mary's looks unlikely barring a change of heart from Dembele.

Southampton

He is out of contract at Lyon in the summer is happy to run down his contract and leave the French club as a free agent in the main window.

The former Fulham forward is sure to have no shortage of takers in the summer having been a prolific scorer at Celtic and Lyon.

Dembele has notched 69 goals and 19 assists in 160 appearances for Lyon but has managed just two Ligue 1 strikes so far this season.

He has been an unused substitute for their last three top-flight games as his contract situation reaches a critical point.

The former France Under-21 international was also prolific for Celtic - a known proving ground for many Premier League imports.

He scored 51 goals in 94 games at Parkhead before leaving for a reported fee of almost £20million.

According to Football Scotland (30 January), Celtic had a sell-on clause in the deal - but will only see a slice of the profits if Lyon sell Dembele for more than £20million.

Southampton

The Saints, who have made three January signings so far, sit rock bottom of the Premier League and are in desperate need of striking reinforcements.
