West Brom have appealed to the EFL after they submitted the paperwork late for their Josh Onomah and Steven Alzate deals, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship club have a nervous wait to find out if they can confirm the captures of the pair on loan from Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.

West Brom agreed deals late on Thursday for the temporary signings of Onomah, 25, and Alzate, 23, but failed to complete the paperwork before the 11pm cut-off.

Now they have lodged appeals with league chiefs that will determine if the transfers can be finalised.

Football Insider reported on deadline day (1 September) that Albion had agreed a season-long loan deal for Alzate.

Steve Bruce had worked with the attacking midfielder when he signed him on loan from Tottenham when he was in charge of Aston Villa.

The pair have not featured for their respective clubs in the Premier League this season and were hoping they could play regular football at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies have already bolstered their midfield ranks with the return of Okay Yokuslu and free transfer signing of John Swift.

Bruce wanted to add more flair to his midfield after West Brom's weak start to the season.

They have only won one of their opening seven games and drawn five others.

West Brom are next in action on Friday night (2 September) when they host Burnley but Onomah and Alzate will likely not be able to feature even if their moves are approved.
