Man City have made Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni their number one target this summer to replace the outgoing Fernandinho, Football Insider understands.

City are in the market for a new midfielder as they seek a long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

A club source has told Football Insider that Tchouameni is at the top of their wanted list.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in the world after catching the eye for Monaco as well as the France national team over the last 18 months.

He is under contract at Monaco until 2024 but the French club are ready to sell him for the right price this summer.

Tchouameni was named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year last season and is set to feature for France at this year’s World Cup.

The likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the all-action midfielder.

But Man City are preparing an offer for the Frenchman in order to get a deal over the line and beat their rivals to a deal.

Club captain Fernandinho revealed yesterday (12 April), via Sky Sports, that it is unlikely he will continue into a 10th season with City as his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Tchouameni has already played over 100 professional games for Monaco and Bordeaux, including 93 appearances in Ligue 1.

After making his national team debut in September 2021, he now has eight France caps to his name.
