Sources: Man City set to beat Man United to sign Everton sensation Emilio Lawrence

Man City have agreed to sign Everton sensation Emilio Lawrence, sources have told Football Insider.

The 16-year-old has been on the radar of the Premier League elite led by City, Man United and Chelsea.

But City have now won the race for the capture of Lawrence after reaching a full agreement with the player.

The attacking midfielder is regarded as one of the best young prospects in the country after catching the eye for Everton’s under-age sides.

Lawrence, who made three appearances for Everton Under-21s last season, is yet to sign on for the club as a scholar and that has opened the door to a number of clubs.

The Scot scored seven goals and provided three assists in 23 games for the Under-18s last season.

Everton confirmed their scholars for the 2022-23 season last week (8 July) who will work under Leighton Baines and there was no mention of Lawrence.

The club did confirm that Ishe Samuels-Smith was one of the new intake.

A recruitment source told Football Insider at the beginning of the month (1 July) that Chelsea were plotting a move for the 16-year-old left-back.

The Toffees lost fellow young left-back Thierry Small last summer (2021) to Southampton who had become the club’s youngest ever first-team player in January 2021.

Man City are renowned for having a strong academy with products like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer now part of Pep Guardiola’s side.

They have also sold Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Leiva, CJ Egan-Riley and Darko Gyabi, who made five appearances for the first-team between them, for a combined fee of around £28million this summer.

In other news, a “controversial” new Man City alliance is causing “absolute havoc”.
