Man United and Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Leicester City centre-back Ben Nelson, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League duo and Man City are keeping tabs on the 18-year-old with a view to a summer deal.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider the three clubs are sending scouts to watch Nelson in action for England Under-18s this week.

Leicester are braced for offers for the teenage sensation as they fight to keep hold of him.

The defender has emerged as one of the brightest young talents at the King Power Stadium.

A graduate of the club's youth ranks, the defender has been a regular for the under-23s despite his age.

His performances for the Foxes' academy sides have earned him call-ups to the first team, though he is yet to make his senior debut.

Nelson has been on the bench for three Premier League games and five cup fixtures.

The Northampton-born starlet also received his first call-up to England's under-18s in November 2021.

He has two appearances under his belt for the Young Lions so far.

The defender will be hoping to feature against Austria, Wales and Croatia in a four-nation tournament in Zagreb next month.

England's first game is against Austria on 7 June.

Scouts from Premier League sides, including Newcastle, Man City and Man United, will be in attendance.

Man United

The trio view the Leicester teenager as a future star who can develop into a first-team talent over the coming years.

Nelson, who only turned 18 back in March, signed his first professional contract in February.
