Sources: Man United in advanced talks over £30m David de Gea deal

Man United are in advanced talks over a new contract with David de Gea, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants are confident the Spain goalkeeper, 32, will commit to a new deal on reduced terms after signalling his willingness to accept a cut to his current £375,000-a-week wages.

United have offered De Gea a three-year deal worth £200,000-a-week after Erik ten Hag was convinced by his performances this season.

There are believed to be some issues still to iron out, but all parties are increasingly hopeful of reaching an agreement.

United opted against exercising an option in De Gea’s existing contract that would have committed the club to his current pay for another year.

De Gea is United’s top earner following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and is also their second longest-serving player after joining from Atletico Madrid for £18million in 2011 when Sir Alex Ferguson was manager.

The Spaniard has played every minute of Man United’s 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

The season got off to a rocky start for De Gea as his place in the side was questioned after high-profile mistakes in Ten Hag’s early games.

The most notable was his failure to play out from the back in 13 August’s 4-0 loss to Brentford.

However, Martin Dubravka, whose loan from Newcastle United was cut short in January, was never trusted to play for Man United in the Premier League.

In total, De Gea has made 517 appearances for the Red Devils.

Man United sit third in the Premier League and are next in action against Leeds United on Wednesday (8 February).
