Sources: Man United manager to hold Blanc talks today - he could get job permanently

Man United will hold preliminary talks with Laurent Blanc today about becoming their new manager, Football Insider understands.

The former France and Paris Saint-Germain manager is highly regarded by the United hierarchy and has a solid relationship with director Sir Alex Ferguson.

A United source has told Football Insider that Blanc, 56, will be sounded out to ascertain his interest in taking over for the rest of the season.

He will be told there is a chance he could get the job permanently if he makes an excellent impression in the role.

Blanc is not the only candidate to take over as the interim manager following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Sunday dismissal.

But he is regarded as a strong candidate due to his impressive CV, United connections and experience of managing at the top level, including in the Champions League.

Blanc is currently manager of Qatari club Al-Rayyan, where he took over in December of last year in his first managerial job in four years.

United would need to pay compensation to prise him from the Middle East as well as persuade him that swapping a permanent post for what could be a job just until the end of the season is the best career move.

The Premier League giants announced on Sunday they are initially looking to appoint an interim manager until next summer and then make a decision on a permanent manager.

The United hierarchy are conscious that the season is salvageable with a top-four Premier League finish and a Champions League run the main targets.

Blanc, a World Cup winner as a player, has won four league titles as a manager, three at PSG and one at Bordeaux.
