Man United are ready to pull the plug on their summer pursuit of Napoli star Victor Osimhen, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils are big admirers of the 24-year-old following his goalscoring exploits this season.

However, it is believed that Osimhen would cost in excess of £100million - and Old Trafford chiefs are unwilling to sanction that deal in the off-season.

A source with knowledge of the situation has revealed that Man United are concerned about the Nigeria international's lack of Premier League experience.

The striker's injury record has also been scrutinised by recruitment chiefs - with Osimhen missing nine games with muscle problems this term.

He has scored 28 goals in 35 games for Napoli - who clinched their first Scudetto win since 1990 last week.

That represents his best-ever season return, with the forward scoring 18 goals in 32 games last term.

Man United are now set to look elsewhere as they target an elite forward capable of launching them into next season's Premier League title race.

Kane has the Premier League experience Man United chiefs are coveting - having scored 209 goals in the English top flight.

Erik ten Hag has struggled with a lack of striker options since Cristiano Ronaldo's shock departure in late 2022.

Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst have struggled to find the net - and uncertainty hangs over the duo's future at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford has been used both on the wing and as a centre-forward, scoring 29 goals across all competitions.
