Sources: Mateo Kovacic move to Man City is '99% done'

Man City are close to finalising the signing of Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has revealed that City’s deal for Kovacic is now “99 per cent done” and the Blues are ready for his exit.

The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge but has made up his mind to make the switch to join Pep Guardiola’s side.

Kovacic has agreed personal terms with Chelsea and the clubs have settled the terms of the fee.

Earlier this month (10 May), Football Insider revealed that the Sky Blues were turning their attention to the Croatia international after it was reported Jude Bellingham would be closing in on a move to Real Madrid.

Guardiola’s side had been eyeing up a swoop for the Borussia Dortmund youngster but turned their attention to Kovacic amid reports that Bellingham is likely to join Real.

The City boss is believed to be a “big fan” of Kovacic as he looks to expand his options in the centre of the park.

On 11 May, Football Insider revealed that Chelsea had placed a £30-£40million price tag on the midfielder.

Chelsea desperately need to trim the size of their squad and are mindful of Financial Fair Play as they look to offload assets in the off-season.

Kovacic has made 37 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions this season and has scored twice and provided two assists in those outings.

Since joining the London club from Real Madrid back in 2019, Kovacic has made 221 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing 15 assists.
