Sources: Middlesbrough agree to sign Norwich City star Hernandez

Middlesbrough have agreed to sign Norwich City star Onel Hernandez, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The north-east club have swooped for the Cuban winger, 28, as they work on strengthening ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

A Boro source has told Football Insider that a deal has been agreed with Norwich for Hernandez to join on loan.

The move is expected to be completed imminently after Daniel Farke gave the green light for the wide man to leave after all his injury troubles.

Hernandez has two years remaining on his contract.

The Cuba international joined Norwich from Eintracht Braunschweig in 2018.

He has helped the Canaries in two different successful promotion campaigns.

Hernandez has scored 11 and assisted 14 in 107 appearances during his time with Norwich.

The winger struggled with an adductor muscle injury last term, missing 19 games.

Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock has moved to overhaul the squad at the Riverside Stadium this summer.

The ex-Cardiff manager has shipped out forwards Britt Assombalonga, Ashley Fletcher, Chuba Akpom and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Sammy Ameobi has arrived to provide cover in wide midfield positions.

Meanwhile, Uche Ikpeazu signed from Wycombe Wanderers to bolster Boro’s front line.

Warnock has had to look at several attacking options this summer.

Football Insider revealed (August 25th) Boro were gazumped by Stade Reims in the hunt to sign Mitchell Van Bergen.

This site also revealed yesterday (August 27th) that the club have moved to secure the services of Sheffield United’s 24-year-old forward Oliver Burke.

A move for Hernandez as well as Burke would bolster Middlesbrough’s attack with top-flight experienced forwards.

The Teeside club currently sit 12th in the Championship.

In other news, Charlton have moved to re-sign this Nottingham Forest star.
