Sources: Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Hull City battle to sign Burnley star Glennon

Middlesbrough, Hull City and Sunderland are keeping tabs on Burnley defender Anthony Glennon, Football Insider understands.

The trio are set to monitor the left-back, 22, during his loan spell at Barrow as they weigh up moves in the summer.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Glennon’s contract at Burnley expires in the summer and Middlesbrough, Hull and Sunderland are eyeing up a free transfer.

Glennon, who came through Liverpool’s academy before joining Burnley in 2018, is highly regarded within the corridors of power at Turf Moor.

He has played three times for Sean Dyche’s first-team and has been a regular for the club’s Under-23s side.

Glennon made an immediate impression on his debut for Barrow, scoring and starring in their FA Cup clash against Barnsley last weekend.

The defender’s suitors are expected to continue to follow his progress at Barrow during the second half of the season.

The Cumbria club are battling to survive in League Two as they sit four points above the relegation zone after 23 games.

Glennon has previous experience in League Two when he played 12 times on loan with Grimsby Town in the 2019-20 campaign.

All three of his senior games for Burnley have come in cup competitions and he made his full debut in the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup fifth-round earlier this season.

The Bootle-born ace has found opportunities limited with Charlie Taylor and Erik Pieters ahead of him in the pecking order.

Pieters is also out of contract in the summer and has made just one Premier League appearance this term.

In other news, the winner has been named as Middlesbrough and Celtic race to sign Riley McGree.
