Sources: Nathan Ake opens talks over Man City deal after Chelsea bid tabled
Nathan Ake is in talks over a new contract at Man City after his impressive form this season, sources have told Football Insider.
The 28-year-old was close to returning to Chelsea last summer (2022) and was even the subject of approaches in January.
Ake is now a key player at Man City and has excelled in a left-back berth following the shock January exit of Joao Cancelo.
Speaking to club media on Sunday (26 February), City boss Pep Guardiola insisted he is “delighted” to have the Netherlands international at the club and hailed transfer chief Txiki Begiristain for his work to sign him.
The former Chelsea ace joined City in 2020 for a reported £41million and has won Premier League titles in both of his seasons at the club.
Ake was initially a backup but has grown into a crucial part of Guardiola’s side – starting 15 of a possible 25 league games this season.

His current contract at the club is set to expire in June 2025.
He earns a reported wage of £90,000-a-week but that salary is set to increase with any new deal.
Ake has racked up 189 Premier League appearances across spells with Chelsea, Watford, Bournemouth and City.
The Blues looked close to completing a deal for the defender to return last summer (2022).
But a move failed to materialise due to a reported disagreement between Chelsea and City over the structure of the transfer.
Man City trail league leaders Arsenal by two points having played one more game than the Gunners.
They face RB Leipzig on 14 March in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 with the tie finely poised at 1-1.
