Sources: New bid submitted for Liverpool forward Millar

Basel have submitted an improved £1.5million bid for Liverpool forward Liam Millar, Football Insider understands.

The Swiss club are hopeful this will be accepted by the Merseysiders and be enough to reach an agreement to sign the Canada international, 21, permanently.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Basel upped their first bid for Millar of £1million to the £1.5m mark.

The versatile attacker has already agreed personal terms with the 20-times champions.

There is also Championship and League One interest in Millar, who was the subject of enquiries from nine clubs last summer.

Millar spent the first half of last season at Liverpool before joining Charlton Athletic on loan in January.

He made 27 appearances for the Addicks, scoring three times and supplying six assists.

That included 23 league starts, mainly operating on the left side of the attack.

Millar racked up 14 appearances for the Liverpool Under-23s last season, scoring five goals.

He had a spell on loan at Kilmarnock in 2019-20 – his second at the Scottish club – and has been capped 11 times by the Canada national side.

Millar has played just once for the Liverpool first team since signing from Fulham in 2016.

That came in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury Town in February of last year when the first teamers were all rested.
