Sources: Newcastle frontrunners in race to sign Alex Scott in summer deal

Newcastle are well-placed to complete the signing of Bristol City midfield sensation Alex Scott this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that Wolves, West Ham and Crystal Palace are also readying moves for the 19-year-old ahead of the summer window.

Wolves moved for the Guernsey-born star in January but were unwilling to meet the Robins’ £25million valuation.

Bristol City are ready for more offers in the off-season as Scott continues to impress in the Championship.

The youngster has started all but one second-tier game this season amid 38 appearances in all competitions.

He made his debut for England’s Under-20 side in September – and has played three times for Ian Foster’s side.

The starlet was also part of the Three Lions’ Under-19 side which lifted the European Championships trophy in 2022.

Scott, who started his professional career at non-league side Guernsey, previously trained with Southampton and Bournemouth as a youth.

He moved to Bristol City in 2020 and has gone on to make 80 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The 19-year-old’s versatility has been one of the most impressive aspects of his game.

Scott can play as an attacking midfielder, a central midfielder, and a holding midfielder – as well as on the right flank.

Newcastle lost out in the League Cup final against Man United on Sunday (26 February) but are well-placed to secure European qualification regardless this season.

The Magpies sit fifth in the table, four points adrift of fourth-place Tottenham with two games in hand on the Lilywhites.
