Sources: Newcastle & Leicester City potential deals collapse at 11th hour

Nathaniel Chalobah’s potential move to Leicester City has collapsed and that has ended Newcastle United’s hopes of landing Hamza Choudhury, Football Insider understands.

Chalobah, 26, was set to head to Brendan Rodgers’ side but Watford wanted a replacement through the door before sanctioning a deal.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Leicester’s move for the midfielder has fallen through and he is now set to stay at Vicarage Road.

The Foxes will in turn block Choudhury from leaving the King Power Stadium as the club were willing to allow him to leave but only if they signed Chalobah.

Newcastle were hoping to sign Choudhury on loan ahead of tonight’s transfer deadline, while West Brom were also credited with an interest.

However, the 23-year-old is set to remain at his current club, like Chalobah, until the end of the season.

Choudhury has made just three Premier League appearances this season, of which only one was a start, with Youri Tielemans and Wilfred Ndidi the preferred partnership in midfield.

The former England Under-21 international has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes set their sights on signing Chalobah this month having watched the midfielder’s impressive displays in the Championship this season.

The former Chelsea man has been instrumental in a Hornets side that sit fourth in the Championship, three points off the automatic promotion spots.
