Sources: Newcastle set sights on second striker signing after Wood agrees personal terms
Newcastle United have set their sights on another striker signing as they put the finishing touches to the Chris Wood transfer on Wednesday, Football Insider understands.
The north-east giants have triggered Wood’s Burnley release after bidding around the £25million mark.
He has headed to Newcastle for a medical and is expected to become the club’s second January recruit following the capture of Kieran Trippier last week.
A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Wood has agreed the terms of a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
Moreover, Eddie Howe’s side are in the market for a second potential forward signing, most likely on loan, as they look to extend what is becoming the biggest-ever Premier League January spree.
Other priorities for Newcastle include at least one centre-back as well as a central midfielder.

Callum Wilson’s injury has increased the need for attacking reinforcements this month.
The Toon’s top scorer with six league goals this season is set to miss the next two months of action.
Newcastle have only scored 19 goals in 21 league games this season and have conceded a joint-worst 42 goals.
There is a need for the Magpies to strengthen at both ends of the pitch if they are to stay in the Premier League.
Wood could make his Newcastle debut on Saturday (15 January) when his new side take on Watford.
A second win as Toon boss would take Eddie Howe’s side out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.
