Sources: Newcastle set to join Mason Mount race after his father makes move

Newcastle United are admirers of Chelsea star Mason Mount as negotiations over his contract renewal continue to falter, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources with knowledge of the 24-year-old’s situation told this site on Monday (13 March) that Mount and his representatives have dropped the clearest signal yet that he could be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

The midfielder’s father has mandated an agent to sound out any potential summer interest after the breakdown in talks.

Mount is out of contract in less than 18 months and has not yet been satisfied with the latest offers from Chelsea.

Football Insider sources revealed last month (15 February) that the midfielder is demanding parity with top-earning stars like Raheem Sterling and Reece James in order to sign a new deal.

News of a breakdown in talks has put Premier League rivals on high alert, with a cut-price deal potentially possible this summer.

This site revealed on Monday (13 March) that Liverpool are in pole position to sign Mount, while Man United are also interested in his services.

Newcastle are also understood to be admirers, while Man City could consider a move – and Juventus are among the foreign sides monitoring the situation.

Sources have suggested a fee of between £60-70million could well be enough to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.

Mount has managed three goals and six assists in 32 appearances as a regular starter this season – but is currently sidelined with a pelvic injury.

Football Insider revealed on 13 February that Newcastle have set aside huge funds to sign a midfield box-office partner for Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

In other news, Newcastle have agreed new £8m deal.
