Sources: Newcastle United and Wolves open talks to sign Hoppe as agents jet in
Newcastle United and Wolves are among multiple Premier League and European clubs trying to sign Schalke sensation Matthew Hoppe, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The USA forward, 20, is expected to leave the cash-strapped German club this month after their relegation last season to the Bundesliga second tier.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Hoppe’s agents are jetting into the UK to hold talks with a number of clubs and they are also set to negotiate with teams across Europe.
Newcastle, Wolves and Brentford are among those who have contacted Schalke in recent days to ask about the attacker’s availability.
Schalke are financially stricken and are likely to have to cash in on one of their premier talents.
Hoppe burst onto the Bundesliga scene by scoring a hat-trick against Hoffenheim in January of this year.

He scored six goals in 22 league matches last season, seven of them as a substitute.
However, Die Konigsblauen went on to finish bottom of the German top flight and were relegated.
Hoppe then excellent for USA at the recent Gold Cup, scoring his first international goal against Jamaica and playing 120 minutes as they beat Mexico in the final after extra time.
Newcastle, Wolves and Brentford are all in the market for a forward before the window shuts on 31 August.
All three clubs are operating under strict financial budgets and that could be key to Hoppe’s ultimate destination.
