Newcastle United could be forced to pay in excess of £20million to land Fenerbahce starlet Arda Guler this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed a cut-price release clause in the 18-year-old's contract has been cancelled after his involvement for the Turkish giants in the 2022-23 campaign.

The development comes after this site revealed (7 May) a meeting between the 18-year-old’s family and the Magpies in Dubai last month.

It is believed there is growing interest in his services from Barcelona and Ajax – but Newcastle are confident of an agreement following the meeting in the Middle East.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Tyneside club believe Guler is capable of making an instant impact in England - and he is therefore not likely to be loaned out for the 2023-24 campaign.

Newcastle need to add players to their squad for next season after qualifying for the Champions League group stage with a fourth-place Premier League finish.

Guler made his senior debut at Fenerbahce in August 2021 - but has enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Turkish giants in the 2022-23 campaign.

He has notched six goals and six assists across 34 appearances in all competitions ahead of the final round of Turkish Lig fixtures.

Guler, who has already been capped twice by the Turkey senior side, signed a fresh three-year deal at the Istanbul giants in 2022, keeping him at the club until June 2025.

Newcastle believe the starlet fits the profile of talent they are trying to bring to the club as their Saudi-backed project continues to take shape.
