Sources: Newcastle United plot raid to sign Leeds star Crysensio Summerville

Newcastle United are among the top clubs monitoring the situation of Leeds United star Crysensio Summerville ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund are also among the 21-year-old’s admirers following his breakthrough season at Elland Road.

Both Newcastle and Dortmund are watching Leeds’ battle against relegation and are ready to pounce in the off-season.

If the Whites drop to the Championship, they will find it hard to keep hold of Summerville.

The Magpies are just one of several top sides ready to move for the Netherlands Under-21 international.

Summerville has notched four goals and two assists in 27 appearances in all competitions this term.

He became a fixture in the side for the first time under former Leeds boss Jesse March in autumn of last year (2022) and scored in four consecutive Premier League games before the mid-season World Cup break.

Among those strikes was a last-gasp winner away at Liverpool as the Whites claimed a famous 2-1 victory.

Summerville has competed for a starting berth with the likes of Jack Harrison, Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto this season.

The former Feyenoord youngster has more than three years left to run on his Elland Road contract after he penned an extension last summer (2022).

16th-place Leeds sit just one point above the Premier League drop zone with six games left to play this term following their 2-1 away loss against Fulham on Saturday (22 April).

Javi Gracia’s side have shipped 18 goals in their last five games as the relegation run-in approaches.

The Whites face a crucial clash against 17th-place Leicester on Tuesday (25 April).
