Sources: Newcastle United set sights on signing Wolves star Max Kilman

Newcastle United are plotting a summer move for Wolves centre-back Max Kilman, sources have told Football Insider.

However, it is believed that the Champions League hopefuls will face stiff competition for the 25-year-old’s signature following his performances this season.

Kilman, who started his career at non-league Maidenhead United, has played every minute of Wolves’ 23 Premier League fixtures this season.

Football Insider revealed last week (17 February) that Newcastle want to sign another new centre-back this summer as they look to strengthen the spine of their side.

Meanwhile, sources have told this site (24 February) that Nottingham Forest are plotting a move for centre-back outcast Jamaal Lascelles.

2022 signing Sven Botman has partnered Fabian Schar for the majority of this season – with Eddie Howe’s side conceding by far the fewest goals in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle are pushing for Champions League qualification – and trail fourth-place Tottenham by one point with a game in hand on the Lilywhites.

Kilman has started in each of his 27 appearances across all competitions this season and even captained Wolves in the League Cup win over Preston in August 2022.

The London-born star, who represented England’s futsal side in his youth, has racked up 75 Premier League appearances since making his debut in 2019.

He extended his contract at Wolves in November 2021, keeping him at Molineux until June 2025.

Kilman is eligible to play for England, Ukraine and Russia at international level.

Wolves are still in the relegation battle despite pulling three points clear of immediate danger in recent weeks.

Newcastle can secure Europa Conference League qualification by winning the League Cup final against Man United on Sunday (26 February).
