Sources: Newcastle United star Freddie Woodman in talks to join Preston North End
Preston North End have opened talks to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, Football Insider understands.
The Championship club have made a move for the former England Under-21 international as they look to recruit a new number one.
A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Woodman, 25, is well down the pecking order at the club and he has been given the green light to find a new club.
Preston are working on a deal to sign Woodman on loan for next season with a view to a permanent deal.
Manager Ryan Lowe is keen to bring in a top-class keeper after seeing Daniel Iversen return to Leicester City following his successful loan stay.
Woodman has had multiple loan spells of his own in recent years, and spent the second half of last season at Bournemouth.

He has previously had spells at Swansea City, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Crawley Town and Hartlepool United.
Woodman was the first choice at Swansea for two seasons but made just one appearance in 2021-22 for Bournemouth, where he played second fiddle to Mark Travers during a frustrating period.
At Newcastle, Woodman has made only nine senior appearances in total.
He is about the enter the final year of his contract and could now end his long association with the club he joined in 2013 from the Crystal Palace youth ranks.
There was Premier League interest in Woodman last summer (2021) as Football Insider but Leeds pulled the plug on their pursuit of the keeper after submitting a loan-to-buy offer.
