Sources: Oldham Athletic in advanced talks to sign Sheffield Wednesday star Hunt
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Alex Hunt is in advanced talks to join Oldham Athletic, Football Insider understands.
Hunt, who has come through the ranks at Hillsborough, returned to the Owls earlier this week after his loan deal at Grimsby expired.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Oldham have moved quickly to agree a deal for the 22-year-old.
Wednesday have given the green light to Hunt going out on loan again this month.
Yesterday (14 January), the Irish midfielder signed a fresh one-year extension at his boyhood club, keeping him at Hillsborough until 2023.
Hunt made 18 National League appearances for Grimsby in the first half of this season, scoring one goal.

The central midfielder made five appearances for Wednesday last term as they were relegated from the Championship.
The Republic of Ireland under-19 international came through the ranks at the Sheffield giants after joining the club at just seven years old.
He followed up the signing of his first professional contract in February 2018 with his competitive debut in the League Cup just six months later.
Crisis club Oldham sit bottom of League Two and are four points from safety after 24 games.
The Latics, one of the founding members of the Premier League, are vying to avoid dropping out of the Football League after 116 years.
They have moved to sign Hunt in a bid to bolster their midfield options.
Oldham are without a win in nine games across all competitions.
The Greater Manchester club are next in action against Harrogate Town on 22 January.
