Sources: Paul Ince in contention for Cardiff City job

Reading boss Paul Ince is in the frame for the vacant manager’s job at Cardiff City, sources have told Football Insider.

Cardiff are searching for a new manager following the sacking of Steve Morison last weekend after the defeat to Huddersfield Town left them languishing in 18th spot.

Ince, 54, has impressed at Reading so far this season and defied the doubters who tipped them as relegation candidates.

The Royals have won six of the first ten games to be placed third in the Championship table despite working under a transfer embargo.

The former England, Liverpool and Man United midfielder initially took interim charge at the Madejski Stadium in February.

Despite winning just four of their final 14 games last season, Reading survived the drop and Ince was rewarded with the job on a permanent basis.

He managed to bring in a dozen new faces on free transfers or on loan over the summer who have helped fire them up the table.

Cardiff sacked Morison after backing him in the summer transfer window with Callum Robinson moving from West Brom for a seven-figure transfer fee.

The Bluebirds have won one of their last seven Championship games and have only scored seven goals all season.

After sacking Morison, they are now looking for their fourth permanent manager since the beginning of 2021.

Cardiff City are next in action at the beginning of October when they host Burnley who have only lost one league game this term.

In other news, Leicester City have readied new manager talks as Brendan Rodgers is set for the sack.
