Sources: Preston ready to loan Bayliss amid Championship clubs race

Preston North End are willing to loan out Tom Bayliss before the window shuts, Football Insider has learned

The Championship club have told the midfielder he can join a new club next season.

A Preston source has told Football Insider that a number of Championship and League One clubs are interested in taking Bayliss on loan.

He has two years left to run on his Deepdale contract and Frankie McAvoy will be hoping he can return from a loan move ready to make an impact.

The 22-year-old has failed to nail down a regular place in the starting XI since moving from Coventry City in the summer of 2019.

Bayliss has featured in 12 Championship games over the past two seasons, including just two starts.

The former England Under-19 international scored his first goal for the club on the final day of last season in a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

However, Preston North End are well stacked in the middle of the park and there may not be room for Bayliss in McAvoy’s 3-5-2 system.

Ryan Ledson won the club’s player of the year award last season while Daniel Johnson and club captain Alan Browne both signed new long-term contracts earlier this year.

Also, Football League World reported earlier this week (21 July) the club are in talks with Brad Potts over a new deal.

Bayliss has featured heavily in pre-season but the performances of academy duo Noah Mawene and Lewis Leigh will have given McAvoy a headache ahead of the new season.

In other news, Tottenham are in talks to sign a striker and offload a young forward in a swap deal.
