Sources: Preston North End tell Middlesbrough £8m will seal Emil Riis deal
Preston North End have placed an £8million price tag on the head of Middlesbrough-wanted Emil Riis, sources have told Football Insider.
Middlesbrough have registered their interest in the Danish striker, 24, after making him their top striker target in the final fortnight of the window.
Preston are reluctant to lose Riis, 24, after he finished as the club’s top scorer with 20 goals in all competitions last season, including two against Boro on the final day of the campaign.
He still has three years to run on his current deal at Deepdale.
Preston have warned Boro it will take a figure in the region of £8m to even make them consider cashing in on their star striker.
The club confirmed on Tuesday (16 August) that no “acceptable” offers had been made for their players amid speculation over Riis.
He was then left out of the starting XI as North End drew 0-0 with Rotherham United that night.
Ryan Lowe told Lancs Live after the game that was for “tactical reasons” as he was also on the bench for the 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday (13 August).
The Preston boss did not rule out Riis’ exit as he insisted all of his players have “got a price”.
Riis moved to the Lancashire club from Randers in the summer of 2020 for around £1million but only scored two Championship goals in his first season.
His form last term led to a first call-up to the Denmark national team but he is yet to make his senior debut for his country.
In other news, there has been a big update on Middlesbrough’s bid to sign Hull City star Jacob Greaves.
