Sources: Preston, Rotherham and Barnsley in race to sign Morecambe striker Stockton
Preston North End, Rotherham, Barnsley and Oxford United are chasing Morecambe striker Cole Stockton, Football Insider understands.
The 27-year-old has been one of the standout performers in the EFL this season and netted his 20th goal of the campaign with the winning goal against Wycombe on Saturday.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Preston, Rotherham, Barnsley and Oxford are weighing up moves for Stockton in the final week of the window.
Morecambe are braced for offers for League One’s second top scorer before the 31 January cut-off.
He is out of contract at the end of next season after penning a new two-year deal over the summer following the club’s promotion to League One.
Stockton now has 52 goals and 13 assists in 148 games across all competitions for the Shrimps.

However, he could become Ryan Lowe’s first signing at Preston this month.
Lowe suffered his first defeat as North End boss to Swansea City yesterday where the limits of his squad were laid bare.
Stockton could provide the perfect foil for Preston’s leading goalscorer Emil Riis who has found the net 13 times in 31 games across all competitions this term.
Meanwhile, Barnsley are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.
The Tykes are bottom of the league and have scored the fewest goals in the division (17).
Last season’s play-off semi-finalists have failed to replace the goals of Daryl Dike who found the net nine times on loan in the second half of the campaign.
