Sources: QPR agree to sign Norwich City star McCallum

QPR have agreed to sign Norwich City defender Sam McCallum, Football Insider has learned.

The left-back, 20, spent last season on loan at Coventry City and started nearly every game for them.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that QPR have swooped for McCallum and agreed the terms of a season-long loan.

McCallum’s loan move to Coventry was actually this third spell at the club.

The left-back initially signed for Coventry in 2018 after being at Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy.

He made 25 appearances across two seasons before signing for Norwich in January 2020.

McCallum was immediately loaned back to Coventry for the rest of the season and re-joined again the following year.

He has made one appearance for the Canaries, playing 86 minutes in an EFL Cup loss to Luton Town.

Last season was McCallum’s first taste of Championship football and he proved to be a vital player for Coventry.

He scored one goal and picked up three assists as the Sky Blues finished 16th.

QPR finished in ninth, nine points off the final playoff place.

Mark Warburton will be looking to improve on last season’s efforts with this summer’s recruitment drive well underway.

Charlie Austin and Jordan Archer have already joined on free transfers with Andre Dozzell also arriving from Ipswich.

Norwich are gearing up for life in the Premier League after just one year away.

They welcome Liverpool to Carrow Road on the first day of the new Premier League season.
