Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers have set their sights on signing Brighton midfielder Taylor Richards, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship duo have made contact with Brighton to enquire about the 21-year-old’s availability.

Both clubs are in the market for a midfielder with the potential to make an immediate first-team impact.

Richards spent the second half of last season at Birmingham City, where he made five appearances.

The former Man City youngster penned a new deal at the Amex Stadium in August 2021 which will see him remain at Brighton until 2024.

The promising midfielder joined the Seagulls from the Premier League champions in July 2019 for a reported £2.5million.

However, Richards is yet to make his senior breakthrough in the top flight and has played just five times for the South Coast outfit.

The London-born youngster was loaned to Doncaster Rovers for the 2020/21 season, notching 11 goals and five assists across 48 games in all competitions.

However, he failed to translate that success into his spell with Birmingham in the second tier.

QPR and Blackburn are now ready to give the former England Under-17 ace another chance in the Championship as he looks to further his development.

The R's want to bolster their attacking options as they target promotion under new boss Michael Beale.

Meanwhile, Blackburn are keen to replace Joe Rothwell after he left for Premier League newcomers Bournemouth.
