Sources: QPR in talks to sign Jake Clarke-Salter after Chelsea announcement

QPR are in talks to sign Jake Clarke-Salter on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.

Chelsea announced the 24-year-old’s release earlier this month (10 June) ahead of the expiration of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that QPR are in negotiations with the player’s representatives over a potential move to Loftus Road.

A number of clubs, including Coventry City and Sheffield United have an shown interest in the centre-half this summer.

QPR are hopeful of fending off the competition to win the race for his signature.

Coventry are keen on re-signing Clarke-Salter after the defender’s successful loan spell at the club last season.

The centre-back impressed in his 31 appearances for Mark Robins’ side.

Clarke-Salter came through the ranks at Chelsea and made his debut for the club in April 2016.

His exit brings to an end a 16-year association with the Blues.

The left-footer spent the majority of his Chelsea career out on loan and only played three times for the first team.

Spells at Vitesse, Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Birmingham City, and Coventry have helped Clarke-Salter amass 128 senior career appearances, with almost 70 of those coming in the Championship.

Clarke-Salter has also been capped by England at Under-21 level and was a part of the team which lifted the Under-20 World Cup in 2017. 

QPR are looking to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion next year after finishing last season 11th in the Championship.
