Rangers star Alfredo Morelos is devastated by the imminent exit of his close friend and fellow attacking star Daniel Candeias, Football Insider understands.

Manager Steven Gerrard revealed following his side's thumping 6-0 win over St Joseph's last night that the winger is closing on a move to Turkey after he had granted him permission to speak to Genclerbirligi.

Ibrox Sources have told Football Insider that Morelos is privately "shattered" at the prospect of Candeias, his closest friend at Ibrox, heading out of the club in the coming days.

The Colombian striker has known for some time that the right winger had his eye on a transfer and is upset at losing a confidante off the pitch and a close ally on it.

The two have combined very well together for the Light Blues since being signed in the summer of 2017 by ex-Ibrox manager Pedro Caixinha.

Candeias has been a regular supplier of goals and scoring opportunities for Morelos from the right flank and his imminent departure will bring further scrutiny on the club's prize asset.

The centre-forward's own future remains very much up in the air and Gerrard has admitted he will be sold in the next three weeks if Rangers' valuation is met.

That remains well in excess of £10million, a fee that has interested many clubs across Europe, including in the Premier League, but not to the extent that a deal has yet been agreed.

There will be concern among Rangers fans that a key player in Candeias is set to leave, and an even more influential one in Morelos will be looking to follow him through the exit door.
