Sources: Rangers plotting move for 'next Mario Mandzukic' after multiple bids rejected

Rangers are keeping close tabs on giant Serbian striker Petar Ratkov, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old, who plays for top-tier Serbian outfit FK TSC, is on the radar of top European clubs heading into the summer.

Anderlecht and Parma had bids rejected for him in January and there is expected to be a major battle to sign him in the next window.

Rangers are assessing Ratkov as they eye up potential centre-forward targets who could replace Alfredo Morelos.

The Glasgow giants have made no formal enquiries or bids as of yet.

The teenager is the first choice in Serbia's Under-21s set-up and has been hailed the 'next Mario Mandzukic' due to his playing style and physical similarities to the national team legend.

Rangers regard Ratkov as more of a project or development player rather than one who would instantly replace Morelos' goals.

Morelos is out of contract in the summer and could depart Ibrox for free at the end of the season.

The Colombian has privately not ruled out the possibility of signing a new contract with the Glasgow giants but could still consider a summer exit.

Michael Beale's other options up front include Antonio Colak, Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe.
