Sources: Rangers star McPake opens talks over new three-year deal

Rangers have opened talks with Josh McPake over a new contract, Football Insider has learned.

The attacker, 19, is on the radar of a number of Scottish and EFL clubs following a successful loan spell at Harrogate Town last season.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club are ready to offer McPake a new three-year contract.

That would run until 2024 and replace his existing agreement, which expires next summer.

The fresh terms would demonstrate Rangers’ faith in their academy product following the best few months of his young career.

McPake made a big impression at English League Two club Harrogate in the second half of 2020-21.

He took his game to a new level after spending the first half of this campaign at Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton.

Multiple clubs are keeping a close eye on McPake, including English Championship duo QPR and Bristol City.

There is the possibility he could pen a new Rangers deal and then go out on loan next season.

McPake, who has made just one senior appearance for the Glasgow giants, is a versatile attacker who operates anywhere across the front line but mainly on the right flank.

Football Insider broke the news on 29th December that Harrogate had won the race to sign McPake on loan ahead of Forest Green Rovers.

He fitted in well at the Yorkshire club, with his 22 starts yielding an impressive four goals.

At Morton in the first half of last season, McPake grabbed two assists in 12 appearances across all competitions.
