Rangers have been told by Bayern Munich that they are free to sign Malik Tillman permanently in the coming months, sources have told Football Insider.

The attacking midfielder, 20, has made a huge impression at Ibrox since joining on a loan-to-buy deal from the Bundesliga giants last summer.

Bayern are delighted by Tillman's development in Glasgow but are not looking to keep him or reintegrate him back into their own squad next season.

The German outfit are open to selling Tillman by reaching an early agreement via the £6.2million buy option included in his loan to Rangers.

It is that cost which is proving prohibitive for Michael Beale's side even though the manager wants to keep him.

Bayern will sell this summer, but Rangers have yet to indicate they will activate the buy option despite the player's excellent form.

Rangers announced record revenues in their last set of financial results but the club's costs, and wage bill, has rocketed in recent seasons.

Tillman has managed nine goals and five assists across 36 appearances this season, with four goals coming in his last seven Scottish Premiership games.

Tillman struggled for first-team minutes during his time at Bayern Munich, with the German giants handing the young midfielder just seven senior appearances before deciding to loan him out to Rangers.

He made his debut for Bayern in 2021 after working his way through the club's academy and scored in his first appearance after coming off the bench in a 12-0 win over Bremer SV in a DFB-Pokal match.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann handed Tillman four appearances in the Bundesliga last season as well as two cameos in the Champions League, but ultimately decided to loan him out in the 2022 summer transfer window.
