Sources: Reiss Nelson rejects Arsenal offer in major blow

Fringe winger Reiss Nelson has rejected a new contract at Arsenal, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the 23-year-old has turned down the first offer made by the Gunners.

Nelson, earns a reported wage of £15,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium, is out of contract at the end of June.

Sources close to the player have told Football Insider that the winger is keen to play more regularly at this stage of his career.

Nelson has turned out 16 times across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign, notching three goals and three assists.

He is yet to start a Premier League game this term – with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli established figures in Mikel Arteta’s side.

The one-time FA Cup winner penned his last contract extension in August 2018.

Nelson has thrived in loan spells away from the Gunners in recent seasons.

Last season, he notched four goals and seven assists in 33 appearances for Feyenoord – and helped the Dutch giants reach the final of the Europa Conference League.

He spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Hoffenheim, notching seven goals and one assist in 28 games across all competitions.

Arsenal are working on several other contracts as the summer window approaches.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (9 May) that the Gunners remain confident of agreeing a new deal with star defender William Saliba.

Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka are among the other stars out of contract in June 2024.
