Sources: Romelu Lukaku ‘not happy’ and wants to quit Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku wants to quit Chelsea this summer, Football Insider has learned.

The club’s £97million record signing is fed up of his second-string status and wants to join a team that makes better use of his attributes.

A Chelsea source has told Football Insider that Lukaku is “not happy” and is eyeing the exit just seven months after his arrival.

This site revealed details in January of a bust-up behind the scenes between the superstar striker, 28, and Thomas Tuchel.

The manager was unhappy with Lukaku’s condition and pulled him into his office to ask him about his weight and lack of sharpness.

That preceded the notorious Sky Italy interview in which the Belgium international went public with his unhappiness at life at Stamford Bridge.

There has been little to change that stance in the subsequent two months.

He revealed he would have “100 per cent” stayed at Inter Milan if he was offered a new contract and was not happy with his game time at Chelsea.

Lukaku has not started a Premier League game since the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last month (19 February) and has not scored in the league this calendar year.

Tuchel has instead selected Kai Havertz to lead the line in recent weeks and he has eight goals in his last eight games across all competitions.

Lukaku is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2026 after signing a long-term deal when he returned from Inter Milan last summer (2021).

He now has 12 goals and three assists in 49 games for the Blues across his two spells in west London.

In other news, a club has reached an agreement in principle to sign a Chelsea superstar.
