Sources: Sheffield United agree Ismael Kone signing after work permit green light

Sheffield United have agreed to sign CF Montreal star Ismael Kone, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder, 20, has been lined up as a replacement for Sander Berge, who is joining Club Brugge.

Football Insider revealed earlier on deadline day that Berge has agreed terms with the Belgian club and is putting the finishing touches to a move.

Canada international Kone is set to replace him at Bramall Lane.

It is believed he was approved for a work permit at an FA hearing on Thursday (1 September).

The Athletic reported earlier this summer (28 July) that Norwich City had agreed a fee for Kone before pulling out of negotiations.

Kone has caught the eye in MLS for CF Montreal after moving to the club last summer, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 21 league appearances.

His form earned him a call up to the Canada national squad in March and he now has two caps to his name.

He is under contract until December when the MLS season ends.

Sheffield United will need to find a replacement for Berge as he has started all seven of their Championship games this season.

The Norway international has scored twice and provided two assists and has the joint-most amount of goal contributions for the Blades.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side are currently top of the Championship with 14 points and are next in action on Sunday (4 September) when they travel to Hull City.
