Sources: Sheffield United agree to sign Leeds academy product Vieira

Sheffield United have agreed to sign ex-Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira from Sampdoria, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Blades have been locked in negotiations with the Italian side over a move that would see the Leeds United academy product return to England.

A United source has told Football Insider the club have now agreed to sign the 23-year-old on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Vieira was sold by Leeds back in 2019 and has had a mixed time over in Italy.

Sampdoria are prepared to let him head out temporarily once again after a spell at Hellas Verona last season.

The midfielder still has two years left on his contract in Italy.

However, he has fallen down the pecking order in Genoa.

He has made 44 appearances for the club but none of those came during the 2020/21 campaign.

Instead, he managed to make just six appearances for Hellas Verona as injury decimated his campaign.

He suffered a serious muscle problem in October and he managed to feature just twice more before the end of the season.

The midfielder was allowed to join Verona after struggling to cement a place in the Sampdoria starting XI.

He managed to make 20 league starts during the 2019/20 season before being shipped out on loan.

A move to Sheffield United would see Vieira return the Championship after breaking through the youth ranks at Leeds.

He made a total of 71 appearances for the Whites, with two goals and four assists under his belt.
